About Adolesecent Counselling...About Counselling / Psychotherapy Psychotherapy/Counselling is based on the development of a healing relationship between client and therapist. This allows for Psychotherapy/Counselling to achieve the aims to help clients understand their difficulties or distress, gain some insight into what motivates their way of being, and enable them to find better ways of coping or bring about changes in their thinking and behaviour. Psychotherapy/Counselling involves exploring feelings, beliefs, thoughts and relevant events, sometimes from childhood and personal history. Depending on the nature of your problem, therapy can be short or long term. What Conditions Can it Help? What benefits can you expect? Although counselling or psychotherapy is not an immediately effective magic wand, you should see a reduction in distress and behaviours after a period of time, the length of which depends on the presenting issue. This is because the effects of counselling are long term and therefore the adolescent needs some time to process what they are struggling with which will create the possibility for making choices that will affect change in how they feel and behave. |
